    Local News for Friday the 3rd of December,

    There were six new cases of COVID-19 reported in the Mid North Coast Local Health District to 8pm yesterday.

    5 are from the Kempsey and 1 from Port Macquarie.

    One person is in hospital and there are 51 active cases throughout the MNCLHD.

    All are linked to a known case or cluster.

    Bellbrook, Toorooka and Temagog Bridges are closed after the Macleay River rose again due to rain in the catchment area.

    There is an expectation that Sherwood Bridge could be closed during the course of Today.

    Council staff will continue to monitor the situation and provide further updates as they become available.

    The flood relief and crossover gates remain open.

    Kempsey Shire Council will remove a sick Norfolk Island Pine in Livingstone Street South West Rocks on Monday.

    The removal will take place between 6am and 1pm.

    Livingstone Street will be closed between Prince of Wales Avenue and Landsborough Street during this time.

    The entrance to Horseshoe Bay Reserve will also be closed.

    The Livingstone Street bus stop will be temporarily relocated to Landsborough Street near the Kempsey Shire Library.

    Council plans to replace the tree in a more suitable location.

    The NSW Government’s First Lap learn to swim voucher program began on Wednesday.

    The First Lap program provides an annual $100 voucher per child, for pre-school children and children in kindergarten in 2021 and 2022

    First Lap vouchers can be claimed at the Service NSW website.

    Local News for Thursday the 2nd of December,

    There were eight Covid-19 cases in Kempsey reported in the Mid North Coast LHD on Tuesday.

    - 7 of the cases are household contacts of a confirmed case and 1 is linked to a known case or cluster

    One person is in hospital and there are now 48 active cases throughout the District.

    The Flood watch posted on Tuesday by the Bureau of Meteorology for the Bellinger and Kalang rivers has been cancelled.

    The South West Rocks Visitor Information Centre has reopened from yesterday.

    Opening hours will be 10am to 3pm daily.

    The Visitor Information Centre is located at the Boatman’s Cottage.

    The Slim Dusty Centre was also re-openend yesterday and will be the venue for this years Kempsey Riverside Market's Twilight Christmas

    Festival starting from 3pm this Saturday.

    The markets will include a line up of stalls located indoors and outdoors and a fireworks display.

    will be held tomorrow at Riverside Park starting at 10am.

    There will be a laser tag arena, jumping castles, magic shows, food and drink vendors, music and a live interactive reptile

    show.

    In the event of wet weather or flooding, the Big Day Out will be moved to the Kempsey Showground.

    and double dose VACCINATION RATES for the Bellingen, Nambucca, Kempsey, Port Macquarie Hastings and Coffs Harbour Shires are all now over 95%.

    Kempsey Shire Council has partnered with Kempsey Families this year to promote the message of ending gender-based violence.

    Council is displaying banners along Smith Street supplied by Kempsey Families, which feature the artwork of two students from local

    Kempsey High Schools.

    The banners have been created through, the "Love Bites" Healthy Relationships in Schools Program.

    The member for Oxley Melinda Pavey and Port Macquarie's local member Leslie Williams announced $5.8 million dollars of funding has been made available

    on two redevelopments for social housing yesterday.

    At Gordon Street in Port Macquarie, the NSW Land and Housing Corporation has launched a registration of interest for builders, developers and community

    housing providers to put forward proposals to redevelop 12 Housing Commission sites.

    On the corner of Gore and Edwards Streets work is underway to convert four ageing properties into 16 new homes.

    The redevelopment is being undertaken by a local Kempsey-based building company, with both redevelopments benefiting locals and the economy as well as providing

    an increase in the amount of social housing in the area.

    The Kempsey Cannonballs are celebrating the end of the rugby season with their under 18's and Reserve grade sides both

    winning the minor premierships for 2021.

    Local News for Thursday the 25th of November,

    There were 4 cases of COVID-19 reported in the Mid North Coast Local Health District to 8pm yesterday.

    - 3 of the cases are from Port Macquarie and 1 from the Nambucca Valley.

    Three are household contacts of a confirmed case and the source of the infection of one case is under investigation.

    One person is in hospital and there are 45 active cases throughout the District.

    A man has been charged after an illegal firearm and large quantity of prohibited drugs were seized on the mid north-coast yesterday.

    About 1.55pm (Wednesday 24 November 2021), officers attached to Manning-Great Lakes Police District executed a search warrant at a home in Taree,

    following investigations into unauthorised possession of firearms and the supply of prohibited drugs in the area.

    During the search, officers allegedly located a large amount of methylamphetamine, cocaine, and steroids, as well as a dismantled seven-shot revolver

    and over $45,000 cash.

    Following the search, a 33-year-old man was arrested and taken to Taree Police Station.

    He was charged with prohibited drug and firearm offences and was refused bail to appear at Forster Local Court today.

    All bridges including Turners Flat, Toorooka, Sherwood and Temagog are OPEN.

    Mid North Coast Health are encouraging Pregnant women who haven’t yet had their COVID-19 vaccination to drop into one of the walk-in Pfizer clinics at Coffs Harbour,

    Kempsey and Port Macquarie today.

    A midwife will be available on-site at each clinic to discuss the importance of getting vaccinated to protect women and their babies.

    The clinics are open from 9am to 4pm at, C-ex Coffs, Kempsey District Hospital and Grant Street in Port Macquarie.

    A photo ID and Medicare card is required and No appointment is necessary.

    Police arrested a 67-year-old man at a house in Wauchope on Tuesday for alleged child sexual offences against two boys

    in Muswellbrook and Gateshead between 1990 and 2004.

    The man was taken to Port Macquarie Police Station and charged with 28 offences:

    He was refused bail and appeared at Port Macquarie Local Court yesterday where he was granted conditional bail, to appear before Belmont Local Court along

    with a 71 year old Lake Macquarie man on Wednesday the 19th of January.

    The Lions Club of Woolgoolga have presented a $20,000 diagnostic device to Mid North Coast Cancer Institute at Coffs Harbour.

    The device provides non-invasive fluid and tissue analysis, detecting lymphoedema, or the fluid build-up that leads to the health condition, within seconds.

    Prostate Cancer Specialist Nurse, Shona Walker said the donation would have a positive impact on the physical and emotional wellbeing of patients.

    The Lions Club has donated over $166,000 in medical equipment during the past six years.

    Local News for Wednesday the 24th of November,

    A Minor Flood Warning for the Macleay River at Kempsey was Issued by the bureu of meteorology at 4pm Yesterday afternoon with MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE

    at Kempsey today as the river may peak near the minor level of 4 and a half meters.

    The River fell below the minor level at Georges Creek and peaked below the minor level at Bellbrook yesterday morning.

    The main flood peak is now approaching Turners Flat.

    The Bellinger River at Thora also fell below the minor flood level yesterday morning with levels at Bellingen and Repton

    predicted to remain below the minor level and No further flooding is expected.

    No further flooding is also expected in the Manning River.

    Kempsey Shire Council has currently listed the Bellbrook, Toorooka, Temagog, Sherwood and Turners Flat Bridges as CLOSED.

    Dungay Creek Causeway is also CLOSED.

    The flood relief and cross over gates at Kinchela Creek and Belmore River, and the flood gates on Euroka and Christmas Creeks are closed.

    Further updates are expected throughout the day.

    The Federal Government has allocated $93.7 million for the Destination Australia Program scholarships.

    The round three scholarships, worth up to $15,000 per student, will help tertiary education providers encourage and

    support more domestic and international students to move to regional Australia.

    This includes TAFE NSW and Charles Sturt University in Port Macquarie and Southern Cross University in Coffs Harbour.

    Local News for Monday the 22nd of November,

    There were five cases of COVID-19 reported in the Mid North Coast Local Health District to 8pm on Saturday including Bellingen's first

    case reported in the current NSW outbreak.

    This case has a known source, has been isolating and investigations are underway to determine if there are any potential exposure sites of public concern.

    The other cases are 2 from Port Macquarie, 1 from Nambucca Valley, and 1 from Kempsey.

    3 of the cases are household contacts of a confirmed case and 2 cases are under investigation.

    Kempsey Shire Council will begin replacing Taits Grid today with Willi Willi Road at Taits Grid being closed for around four weeks

    while the replacement is carried out.

    A detour will be in place via Warbro Road which is approximately 3.5km from the Willi Willi Road and Carrai Road intersection.

    Council requests that drivers please take care, follow directions and allow extra time when travelling to and around these locations.

    Port Macquarie Golf Club greens were awash with pink on Friday as Port Macquarie Women Golfers and their guests teed off for their annual Breast Cancer

    Charity Day.

    There was bright attire and superb golfing along with a presentation function in a show of support for breast

    cancer patients.

    The charity day raised more than $5000 for the Mid North Coast Cancer Institute.

    The NSW Police have launched ‘Summer Safe’ – a state-wide high-visibility strategy focusing on crime prevention, alcohol-related crime,

    anti-social behaviour and road safety.

    During the summer months, there’ll be a strong police presence on the roads targeting drink, drug, distracted and dangerous

    driving – as well as speeding and fatigue.

    Police say that the campaign is to encourage people to make good choices to ensure the season is memorable for all the right reasons.

    Works have resumed on rehabilitating South West Rocks Road.

    The section of road works between Kinchela and Jerseyville is a continuation of

    previous restorative works that were completed on South West Rocks Road earlier in the year.

    Last week, council crews completed the tyning and shaping of the pavement as well as edging works.

    This week crews will begin placing the gravel.

    The 'Welcome to the World Little Ones' gift packs were supported by the Sydney-based charity Good360 Australia.

    corporate and professional material specific to the District.

    The aim of the artwork is to provide visual representation of Aboriginal culture in the local area.
