Local News for Friday the 17th of December.

There were 14 new cases of COVID-19 reported in the Mid North Coast Local Health District to 8pm on Wednesday.

- 6 cases are from Coffs, 5 are from Port Macquarie and 3 are from the Nambucca Local GA

- 6 cases are linked to a known case or cluster

- 8 cases are under investigation.

Two people are in hospital and there are 80 active cases throughout the District.

The Member for Oxley Melinda Pavey joined Kempsey Shire Council Mayor Liz Campbell to open numerous components of the

new Verge and Eden Streets Sporting Complex Yesterday in front of a collection of local sporting groups.

The event capped off a key milestone for Council’s $10 million project to improve sport and recreation and host

large scale events in the Shire, funded through a NSW Government grant.

Around 30 police officers and detectives have spent more than four weeks scouring bushland and waterways near Kendall, where

three year old William Tyrell was last seen on September 12, 2014.

This week the police announced the latest massive search was to wrap up in the coming days.

Police have left a memorial at the site and emergency crews have signed their names on a hoe.

A message has also been written on the handle, which reads "we will never give up" and "search for William Tyrrell".

The Member for Oxley, Melinda Pavey has praised The Police, forensic experts, RFS and SES crews, Salvation Army and the local community

for their efforts over these past few weeks.

The NSW Police Force remains committed to finding William Tyrrell.

Talented swimmer Josie Charlton has ticked off another achievement this month after she was selected as Kempsey Macleay Sportsperson of the Month for December.

Josie recently competed in the area swimming championships hosted by Sawtell Swimming Club and was named girls age champion for the 17s.

Competing in nine events Josie achieved three 1sts, five 2nds and one third.

Swimming at these championships is part of the criteria for the Area Development squads membership for the next year's squad days.

Josie's swimming efforts will see her compete at national's next year in Adelaide.
