Local News for Tuesday the 14th of December.

THERE are 69 active cases of COVID in the Mid North Coast Local Health District as of today.

There were nine new cases of COVID-19 reported in the District to 8pm yesterday.

Six cases are from Port Macquarie and three are from the Nambucca Valley.

Two of the cases are linked to a known case or cluster and the source of the infection of seven cases is being investigated.

Two people are receiving care and treatment in hospital.

Kempsey West Public School has closed after a member of the school community tested positive for COVID-19.

It follows the closure of Hastings Secondary College's Westport campus in Port Macquarie.

There have been 588 cases reported in the District since the beginning of the current NSW outbreak.

The distribution of preferences for the December 4th Local Government Election is scheduled to commence on Monday for the Mayoral contest

and on Tuesday for Councillors.

First preference results for Kempsey Shire Mayor has candidate Liz Campbell ahead of Leo Hauville by a margin of 494 votes.

The results will be declared as they are confirmed by the New South Wales Electoral Commission from Tuesday 21st of December onwards.

Kempsey Shire Council and St Vincent de Paul are relaunching the "Light Up Your Street" Christmas Lights competition for 2021.

After a couple of very challenging years, Christmas is a great opportunity for residents and business to brighten up the streets and bring the joy of

Christmas to all.

Locals are invited to get into the spirit with the added bonus of winning some great locally sourced prizes.

Prizes will be awarded to best lit home, best lit street and best lit business.

Applications open Friday 3 December 2021 and are available at the yoursay.macleay website.

Winners will be announced and notified on Wednesday 22 December 2021.

The Waste Management Centre on Crescent Head Road will close from 12pm on Thursday and will close again for the full day on Christmas Day.

The Waste Transfer Station at South West Rocks will also close from 12pm on Thursday.

Council’s Waste Transfer Stations at South West Rocks, Bellbrook and Stuarts Point will close from the 25th to the 28th of December and the 3rd of January.

Residents can put all three bins out on their usual bin night between the 20th and the 27th of December.
