Local News for Tuesday the 7th of December.

The contest for Kempsey mayor has tightened with only 328 votes seperating candidates Liz Campbell and Leo Hauville at last count yesterday afternoon.

First preference votes have Liz Campbell leading with 30.91 per cent and Leo Hauville close behind with 28.7 per cent.

The mayoral position has been contested by Seven candidates, and Eight councillors will be chosen from 22 candidates with Liz Campbell, Arthur Bain and

Alexandra Wyatt likely to be returned as councillors.

The distribution of preferences in the mayoral contest is scheduled for December 20, followed by the distribution of preferences in the councillor

election on December 22.

Over 17% of the votes counted so far have been informal or wasted votes.

In Bellingen, independent Steve Allan will win the mayoral seat from former mayor Dominic King.

In Nambucca Valley, Rhonda Hoban will be returned as mayor with a progressive tally securing over 68 per cent of the vote so far over Susan Jenvey.

A man will face court next month after being charged with a fatal crash on the Mid North Coast.

Just before 11.30am on Monday the 4th of October 2021, emergency services were called to Pindimar Road near Myall Way,

Pindimar, after reports a Subaru Forrester and a Nissan Dualis had collided.

Police have been told a woman stopped her Nissan Dualis on the shoulder of Pindimar Road, when it was struck by a

Subaru Forrester.

Emergency services attended; however, the 64-year-old Bundabah woman died at the scene.

The Subaru driver, a 46-year-old Pindimar man, was freed after being trapped and airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.

Following extensive investigations, the man attended Manly Police Station yesterday and was charged with 5 seperate counts of driving

occasioning death, including negligent driving and drive with mid range PCA.

He has been granted conditional bail to appear at Raymond Terrace Local Court on Monday 24 January 2022.

There were three new Kempsey cases of COVID-19 reported in the Mid North Coast Local Health District to 8pm on Sunday.

All are household contacts of a confirmed case.

One person is in hospital and there are now 66 active cases throughout the MNCLHD.

There were almost 200 people at the opening of the West Kempsey Pump Track on the weekend, despite the wet weather.

Kids of all ages took turns on the track along with pro riders, Ryan Gilchrist and Zoe Cuthbert who put on demonstrations for the crowd.

The pump track had been in development for nearly three years, and the day was to celebrate all of the work that council and the community had put into it.
